New and Improved!

Last night I dug down into the picture box. Pulled out another album, fired up the scanner and added some choice pictures to the Skool Daze collection. Lucky for everyone there are still some albums to go! If the scanner holds up and I ever get Christmas Shopping done, the Christmas Cards mailed (and they still need addressed – maybe fair warning, I think next year it will just be a nicely composed email for everyone.) all the holiday ham, turkey and giblets eaten and the last of the gravy sopped up, the last of the company walks out the door (not that I am rushing anyone off….) I can go through the other albums and post those also.

Until we finish the over-indulgence of the season,
George

Comments on Skool Daze

If you enjoyed looking at the Skool Daze photos, and you did not see some, or any, of your favorite school related photos, it’s probably because I do not have a copy!

You can always send pictures and I would be happy to include them here.

It’s not all that hard to update the album, just make sure you include Date of photo, place taken and names of people in them.

Here’s looking at you!

Pictures – Pictures Wanted

Okay, now that the Skool Daze collection is out there and hundreds of thousands of people are enjoying them, I am contemplating the next album. I am thinking there are a lot of wedding pictures that I have, and other people have stashed away, that could be put into a set for the future. Lets get all those hidden and nearly forgotten pictures out of the shoe boxes and closets and put them where people can look at them and “Remember the day”. Whether “the day” was in your memories “the most beautiful wedding ever”, or “Man, the stag last night was AWEsome!”, and I have heard the brides have some pretty exciting parties also! (PS if you want to send private photos of those events, you can send those too! I promise not to share them!)

One thing I am doing with all this is saving to DVD along with the genealogy data.

There are some provisions in place for trying to assure the genalogy data I have collected is not lost in the future. So, help preserve the entire Kasdorf collection for the future. Send your wedding related photos to be added to Kazology.

Please make sure you identify the people and the dates!

I am finding I like to arrange everything in a chrolological order rather than by family. Viewing the albums then becomes a small walk through history. Without names they are still interesting pictures, but not of much use in the future. With Windows allowing long file names most basic information can be added that way, saving it fairly permanently.

If it contains information not in the genealogy database I will add it there also.

Maybe I need to make a disclaimer since this is a public web site. I am talking about Kasdorf and related family lines. If you have no idea if this means you, probably want to hang onto your photos for the time being.

Looking backwards to the future,
George

Skool Daze

Computer lesson #12-02-2005 titled “Don’t work late at night”.  Last night I spent several hours editing the captions for the pending “Skool Daze” photo album. Sitting back and admiring my work I notices a few photos that I had not included, so added them to the main collection. Somewhere at this point my foggy brain seemed to decide that if I then deleted the thumbnails and rebuilt them everything would be back in the correct cronologic order. I did the typical “select all” and then pressed the delete key. The program was nice and even asked if I was sure I wanted to do that, and well, heck yes I wanted to do that, or why would I have pressed the key? My brain received those electro-chemical pulses just a few micro seconds to late. OH… that didn’t delete the thumbnails, but the pictures that create the thumbnails. Rats… gone is gone. So having done this perhaps one other time (?) I had made a copy of the original picture folder which I was able to restore. Several hours after midnight I had the captions re-edited and ready to go. (This also gives me a good excuse for typo’s or other lack of judgement in the captions.) Now the critic/counsul needs to review the completed work to advise on any neccessary deletions. Then I will be ready to post. In this case necessary deletions may be photos of people having bad hair days (with the obvious exception of me), displays of inappropriate hand gestures.

(This alone caused a 30% reduction in the college era photos.)

People exhibiting un-intententional “plumbers crack” (although I have some great photos of the “Moon rising over West Lafayette” that I may still sneak in.. after all they are “Art” you know. – and John knows the photo I mean ;-) may also be supressed for the sake of the general public.
Stay tuned.

School Days

Spurred on by my old college room mate I am working to digitize a pile of pictures and other memorabilia. This was previously known as “trash” by other un-named persons living here, that is until I found an old picture they thought was nice. Ah well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. Watch for “Skool Daze” coming to Kazology web album soon.

Now, I wonder how the coconut gorilla head will photograph…. or the unicycle…. will have to retrieve those artifacts under pretense of getting the christmas decorations down this weekend!

Greetings to Kazology Readers.

Okay then, so I am now up and blogging on my very own personal blog. Hosted by Paul and I, with all the accompanying problems. There are two different RSS feeds associated with WordPress software, so sometime in the future we will remove the original RSS feed. I don’t think there is any reason to have three. The original was fun to start with, but this allows comments back to any posts we may add

…. wait, maybe that is NOT a good thing!

wait, maybe that is NOT a good thing! At the bottom of this page are the links to the RSS feeds which you can update the old link with. As I have posted before, don’t expect daily updates, nor weekly, nor…. It also allows archiving of the posts and comments something the other simple RSS program did not. (Most RSS readers hide the news items once you have read them, and I am sure everyone will want to refer back to the words of wisdom that will be here!
